"They Don't Like Referendums"
In the halls of power, where politicians roam,
There's a fear of something that feels like home.
It's not the opposition or scandals in the news,
But something much scarier that gives them the blues.
It's the dreaded referendum, a people-powered might,
That fills politicians with a terrible fright.
For when the people speak, with their votes so clear,
It's like a slap in the face that they simply can't bear.
You see, politicians prefer their plans to be neat,
Crafted behind closed doors, away from the street.
But a referendum? Oh no, that won't do,
It's like letting toddlers loose in a china shop, too true.
For when the people have their say, it's like a storm unleashed,
Politicians scramble, feeling thoroughly breached.
They can't control the outcome, it's out of their hands,
And that's a situation they just can't withstand.
So they'll hem and they'll haw, and they'll try to delay,
Hoping the people will forget and go away.
But the truth remains clear, like a bright neon sign,
Referendums are scary, and that's just fine!
So next time you hear politicians squirm and squabble,
Remember the referendum, that democratic bobble.
It's like a thorn in their side they can't quite remove,
And that, my friends, is democracy's groove!
